Stunning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o has written a children’s book entitled Sulwe. The cute book tells the story of a little girl who was uncomfortable in her skin until she had a turning point.
The talented actress who holds a master’s degree in acting from the Yale School of Drama is the first Kenyan actress to win an Academy Award. This came off her first feature film role in the critically acclaimed and well received film ‘12 Years a Slave.’
Lupita excitedly broke her book news on her Facebook page with the caption beneath the picture.
I wrote a book! It’s called #Sulwe! This is the cover! I’m thrilled to share it with you. Sulwe is out October 1 and is available for pre-order today at the link in bio! The extraordinary Vashti Harrison Illustration illustrated the story. I wrote #Sulwe to encourage children (and everyone really!) to love the skin they are in & to see the beauty that radiates from within.
We can’t have enough of books that are especially targeted at African girls and by extension, boys and everyone, so congrats are in order for Miss Nyong’o. Way to go.
Guys, pre order Sulwe here
